You will find ancient forts at many places in India, these forts are a symbol of our ancient culture. Today, even though these forts are not ruled by kings and maharajas, they still attract tourists with their beauty. One of these forts is Murud-Janjira Fort located in Murud village of Raigad district of Maharashtra. The construction work of this fort spread over about 22 acres was completed in 22 years.
This fort used to be the capital of the Siddiquis of Janjira, the British and Maratha rulers tried a lot to conquer this fort, but they could not succeed in their purpose. This fort is built in the middle of the sea and is surrounded by salt water from all sides. Shah Baba’s tomb is built in the fort about 90 feet high from the sea level. 22 cannons were deployed for the security of this fort. The cannons of Siddiqui rulers are still present in this 350 year old fort.
