Making sesame seed laddoos is considered auspicious during Makar Sankranti and the winter season. Sesame seeds are rich in calcium, iron, and have a warming effect, providing energy and strength to the body during the cold weather.

Ingredients for Sesame Seed Laddoos

White sesame seeds – 1 cup

Jaggery – ¾ cup (grated or in pieces)

Ghee – 2 tablespoons

Peanuts (roasted and coarsely ground) – ½ cup (optional)

Cardamom powder – ½ teaspoon

Method for Making Sesame Seed Laddoos

First, roast the white sesame seeds in a pan over low heat until golden brown. Be careful not to burn the seeds, otherwise, the taste may become bitter. After roasting, let the seeds cool and then lightly grind them.

Now, add the ghee to the same pan and melt the jaggery over low heat. Once the jaggery has completely melted, add the roasted sesame seeds, peanuts, and cardamom powder and mix well. Stir the mixture for 1-2 minutes so that all the ingredients are well combined.

While the mixture is still slightly warm, grease your palms with a little ghee and shape the mixture into small laddoos. The laddoos will harden nicely once they cool down.
